n the spring of 2016, Opera Zuid will perform the Italian opera classic La Bohème. This opera tells the story of some poor artistic Parisians, getting lost in art and love.
Poet Rodolfo, painter Marcello, philosopher Colline and musician Schaunard are leading the bohemian life. They all live together in an attic room and are regularly found in their favourite pub, café Momus. One night Rodolfo meets the girl next door, seamstress Mimì. It is love at first sight. Unfortunately, their happiness will not last very long. Mimì is terminally ill and Rodolfo is not able to provide for the necessary care financially. Rodolfo tells Mimì to find a wealthy man. Also, the passionate affair between painter Marcello and his Musetta gets off track; the relationship cannot sustain her flirtations and his jealousy. Several months after both couples broke up, Musetta takes the mortally ill Mimì up to the attic room. Surrounded by her friends, she dies in the arms of the love of her live.
