A moving performer known for his charisma on stage, his bright and warm voice tone and his great musicality; Over the last decade French- Canadian lyrico-spinto tenor Steeve Michaud has reached new heights.
Upcoming engagements includes Opera Pellegrini Concert Gala, tenor solo in Mozart Requiem, the Prince in Cinderella by Viardot (I Musici Brucellencis Belgium) and Mario in Tosca (Canada).
Since his first major operatic « Début » in La Traviata with Opéra de Montréal, Steeve has appeared as Hoffmann, Don José, Werther, DesGrieux, MacDuff, Pinkerton, Rodolfo, Caravadossi, and Calaf (Turandot/Int’l Voice Comp.) to name a few.
Earlier this season, he was the title role in Tales of Hoffmann for Opéra de Rimouski and the Charmant Prince in the Canadian Première of Cinderella by Pauline Viardot for the St-Eustache Opera Festival.
As a talented lyric tenor soloist, Steeve has performed in many recitals, chamber music concerts and oratorios such as Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge, the 9th Symphony and Missa Solemnis as well as in the Mozart and Verdi’s Requiem,
Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Dubois’s Paradis perdu, Honegger’s King David and more.
Steeve has performed with a number of opera companies and symphony orchestras in Canada such as the Opéra de Montréal, Opera de Québec, Hamilton Opera, Calgary Opera, Opera Ontario, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Orchestra, the Gatineau Symphony Orchestra, the Montréal Philharmonic Society, the New World Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia de Lanaudière as well as numerous producers in the United States, France, Italy and China.
Finalist at the Puccini International Singing Competition in Verona, Steeve has received honourable recognitions as the first prize of New Talent from the Western Quebec Cultural Council and won the second award at the Altamura-Caruso International Voice Competition in 2011 to name a few.
Proudly supported in his career by Otto’s BMW, he also has received a number of grants and awards from recognized organizations such as Cultural Council of Québec, Jeunesses Musicales of Canada and Fondation Jacqueline Desmarais.
Steeve has also collaborated in major corporate and cultural events, such as the Canada Day Celebrations, the Italian Week Festival, the Christmas Lights Event, the Music and Beyond Festival and the Premio Ragusani nel mondo Awards in Sicily.
Former member of the Montreal Opera Young Artists Studio, Steeve holds a Master in Vocal Performance from Université de Montréal and he specialized in opera with some of the greatest collaborators of the Metropolitan Opera and the Juilliard School of Music at the International Vocal Arts Institute (IVAI), in addition of being an alumnus of the Nice International Academy and LaRoche d’Hys Academy.
He presently continue his vocal development and training under the guidance of voice teacher David L. Jones and coaches Denise Massé and William Hicks in New York.
As a versatile artist, he is a talented pianist, guest maestro, columnist for CBC Première Chaine Radio, producer, speaker and he even composes in his spare time.
He conducted two Offenbach works, La Périchole and La Vie parisienne, as well as Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow, presented in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of History.
Finally, as a composer he had the privilege to write an opening hymn for a beatification ceremony in 1997 at the Vatican.
