American soprano Chelsea Basler has been praised for her “luminous voice,” “easy soaring range,” and “wonderful acting.” Critics have hailed her as “golden-voiced” and “simply superb.” Her recent portrayal of Isolt in Boston Lyric Opera's production of The Love Potion was described as "lovely, passionate, and clear" (Opera News).
This past January, Chelsea sang the title role in Pasadena Opera’s production of Susannah. In May, Chelsea will be coming back to Boston Lyric Opera for their new production of The Merry Widow and singing the part of Valencienne. Following that production, she will be joining Opera Saratoga as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. In the fall Ms. Basler will be making her role debut as Micaela in Boston Lyric Opera’s Carmen. Following Carmen Chelsea will travel to Virginia Opera to cover the role of Liu in their upcoming production of Turandot.
This past summer Chelsea joined The Santa Fe Opera for their 2015 summer festival, appearing as Sara in Cold Mountain and covering the role of Arminda in La Finta Giardiniera. For the 2014-2015 season, Chelsea performed the role of Flora (La Traviata), Isolt in Martin's The Love Potion, and Glasha in Katya Kedabanova, all with the Boston Lyric Opera. Chelsea also sang the role of Zerlina in the Boston Lyric Opera's May 2015 production of Don Giovanni. Recital and oratorio engagements included a recital at the National Opera Center in New York City, Mozart's Exultate Jubilate, Handel’s Messiah, Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and Mahler’s 4th Symphony with the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and Vivaldi's Gloria with the Clearlakes Chorale.
In the 2013-2014 season, Chelsea joined the Emerging Artists at the Boston Lyric Opera, where she appeared as Papagena in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and sang the role of Margaret in Lizzie Borden - a role she reprised at Tanglewood. Additional appearances included Countess Ciprano in Rigoletto, and Enrichetta in I Puritani, both with Boston Lyric Opera. Chelsea also covered the roles of Pamina, Elvira, and Gilda. As a studio artist with Sarasota Opera from 2012-2013, Ms. Basler covered the role of Gilda in Rigoletto and appeared as Guardian of the Dawn in Little Nemo in Slumberland. She also performed the role of Curley’s Wife in Of Mice and Men and covered the role of Liu in Turandot. In the summer of 2012, Chelsea joined Des Moines Metro Opera, where she covered the role of Magda in La Rondine.
Ms. Basler has appeared with Ohio Light Opera singing Sylva in Gypsy Princess and Marshina in Kismet. Past credits with OLO include Laula in L’Etoile, Margot in Desert Song, Helene in La Belle Helene and Annina in A Night in Venice. Other roles in repertoire include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Helena in Hin und Zurück with Opera in the Ozarks, Lucy in The Telephone with Opera New Hampshire, First Knitter in A Game of Chance and Lola in Gallantry with New England Conservatory Light Opera, Novizia in Suor Angelica with the Lucca Opera Festival in Italy, and Anica in The Conquistador with San Diego Opera.
