Graduated at Conservatory of Salerno, young bass Antonio Di Matteo is one of the most promising singers of his generation. He attended several masterclass with Walter Alberti, Renata Scotto, Thomas Hampson and Bonaldo Giaiotti.
Actually he is a member of Opera Studio of Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, under the guidance of Renata Scotto, Anna Vandi and Cesare Scarton.
He also was a member of the Choir of Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, where he worked with such conductors as Roberto Abbado, Nicola Luisotti, Riccardo Muti and Nello Santi.
A winner of speciale prize “Fondazione Pavarotti International” at VII International Competition of Ravello, (2013), and First Prize winner of V Benvenuto Franci Competition in Pienza (2014), he took part in several gala concerts in Italy and aborad, including the concert “Una voce dentro l’anima”, in memory of Boris Christoff, at Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
In 2013 he took part in a gala concert at Salzburg Festival and at the final concert of “Young Singers Project 2013” at Große Universitätsaula in Salzburg.
His recent engagements have included Rusalka (Cacciatore) at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Otello (Araldo) under the baton of Nicola Luisotti, Simon Boccanegra (cover of Jacopo Fiesco) at Teatro Verdi di Salerno and Don Carlo (Deputato fiammingo) under the baton of Antonio Pappano at Salzburg Festival.
He also made his role debuts as Sarastro in Die Zauberflote at Große Universitätsaula in Salzburg under the baton of Kai Röhrig, as Gran Sacerdote di Belo in Nabucco in Rimini and as Commendatore in Don Giovanni in Modena, Piacenza and Lucca under Aldo Sisillo.
During the 2014/15 season he performed Macbeth at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Don Giovanni in Udine, Aida, La traviata and Nabucco at Taormina Arte Summer Festival.
He opened the 2015/16 season peforming as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte at Teatro Massimo in Palermo, followed Attila (Papa Leone) at Teatro Massimo in Palermo and Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
Among his future plans are productions of La bohème (Colline) at Festival d’Antibes and at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Tosca (Angelotti) at Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, Rigoletto (Sparafucile) at Teatro Comunale di Bologna and at Theaters of Pisa and Rovigo, Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Osmin) in Treviso and Ferrara, as well as Semiramide (Oroe) at Opéra de Nancy.
