Des Moines Metro Opera Presents Le Comte Ory (The Count Ory)
The effervescent opera, Le Comte Ory, composed by Gioachino Rossini, is a comic tale of disguise, seduction, and the victory of virtue. This new IPTV production captures the brilliance of this opera performed in French with English supertitles.
Color, wit and life abound in Rossini’s Le Comte Ory, the first great French-language comic opera. The scene is the French countryside; the time, the Middle Ages, during the Crusades. Count Ory, a young nobleman, will do just about anything to conquer the chaste Countess Adèle, but his page, Isolier, will do even more to win her love. The result is a triangle of intrigue, counter-intrigue, and counter-counter-intrigue that features some of the most gorgeous and vocally dazzling music in the operatic repertoire. Des Moines Metro Opera has assembled a stellar cast to perform what is considered some of Rossini’s most challenging singing roles. Rossini’s best known opera’s include The Barber of Seville and Guillaume Tell (William Tell).
Iowa Public Television producers and engineers studied the opera to design coverage that would portray the witty storyline, exquisite design work and stunning score. We are excited to bring the remarkable art of opera to IPTV viewers throughout the state.
