Stefania Toczyska is one of the great mezzos of the last 50 years and has performed at all the world’s great opera houses, including: the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Opéra National de Paris, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Hamburgische Staatsoper and San Francisco Opera; in repertoire including: Azucena, Amneris, Carmen, Dulcinea, Eboli, Laura (La Giaconda), Marina (Boris Godunov) and Marfa (Khovanshchina).
In recent years, Stefania Toczyska’s repertoire has included: Amm (Boris Godunov), Larina (Eugen Onegin), the grandmother in Prokofjev’s The Gambler, Old Buruya (Jenufa), Countess (Pique Dame), Contessa de Coigny (Andrea Chenier), Mamma Lucia (Cavalleria rusticana).
Stefania Toczyska has made numerous recordings. She recorded the role of Azucena in Il Trovatore with Katia Ricciarelli, José Carreras and Yuri Mazurok under Sir Colin Davis. Most recently, she recorded a DVD at Gran Teatro del Liceu, singing the part of The Nurse in a Boris Godunov production conducted by Sebastian Weigle and directed by Willy Decker.
