American Baritone Richard Bonelli (1894-1980) / Visione Veneziana (Brogi) / Recorded: c.1929 --

Born in Port Byron, New York, and originally Richard Bunn, he started vocal training after studying at Syracuse University. He made his debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1915 as Valentin in Faust. After WWI he studied further with Jean De Reszke in Paris, and then made guest appearances at Monte Carlo, La Scala, and in the Paris opera houses. He had outstanding successes at the Chicago Opera (1925-31) and was a member of the Metropolitan Opera (1932-45). He was especially famous as an interpreter of Italian roles, but also sang Wolfram in Tannhauser. (Source: Kutsch & Riemens Biographical Dictionary of Singer - Chilton Book Company - 1969)
