From New Jersey, Matt is a third year fellow in the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute at UNCSA. Recently selected as a Semi-Finalist in the prestigious Houston Grand Opera Eleanor McCollum Competition, Matt is also a two-time winner of the encouragement award at the Heafner-Williams Competition. He recently placed third in the 2016 Charlotte Opera Guild Competition and was also the recipient of the 2015 Chautauqua Opera Encouragement Award as well as the Verdi Award at the Orpheus National Vocal Competition.
He has sung with many opera regional companies including the Castleton Festival as Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly under the baton of the late Maestro Lorin Maazel, Piedmont Opera, Opera Roanoke, North Carolina Opera, Greensboro Light Opera and Song and Chautauqua Opera. Recent role performances include Don Jose in La tragèdie de Carmen, Uncle Vèzinet in Il cappello di paglia di Firenze, Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus as well as Florestan in scenes from Fidelio. This summer, he will attend the Princeton Festival in New Jersey where he will cover the title role in Peter Grimes.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice and a Minor in Sacred Music from the University of Delaware and a Master of Music degree in Voice from UNC Greensboro.
