Soprano Marika Machitidze, one of the most outstanding representatives of the young Georgian musicians, stands out for her professional vocal qualities, strong stage presence and artistic talent. She first studied violin at the Kutaisi Musical School, then turned to vocal at the same school with professor George Lomtadze. In 2002-2008 she was enrolled at the vocal faculty of Tbilisi V.
Sarajshvili State Conservatory with professor Medea Amiranashvili, where she received BA and MA in Academic Singing. In 2010-2011 Marika received masterclasses from famous Italian maestros, such as Alberto Zedda, Tiziana Fabbricini at the Academy of Bel Canto Rodolfo Celetti in Italy. She also received masterclasses from prominent teachers, such as Luciana Serra and Vincenzo Scalera at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala. In 2013 Marika Machitidze attended the specialized courses in French singing at the Academy of French Song and Opera, under Florence Daguerre de Hureaux and Caroline Dowdle. Marika also received masterclasses from famous Georgian singer Iano Tamar at the Accademia Internazionale Maria Malibran in 2014.
From 2009 on, Marika Machitidze is a soloist at the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theatre. She excels in the most demanding heroines of the nineteenth-century bel canto repertoire as well as in the operas of Verdi and Mozart. Highlights of her 2014/15 season include Violetta by Verdi “La Traviata”, Gilda by Verdi “Rigoletto”, Lucia by Donizetti “Lucia di Lammermoor” and others. She often takes part in chamber music concerts as well.
Marika participated in numerous international festivals and competitions. In 2012 she was a participant in the Youth Opera Forum of the CIS Countries in Minsk Bolshoi Opera, where she performed Gilda in Verdi’s “Rigoletto”. Marika also participated in first and second Kutaisi Classical Music Festival (2012-2014) and VII Tbilisi Chamber Music Festival with Tsintsadze National String Quartet. In 2013 she took part in Saaremaa Opera Festival with Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theatre, singing Gilda from Verdi’s “Rigoletto”. In January 2014 Marika sang with NFM Symphonic Orchestra at the New Year Gala in the Centennial Hall in Wroclaw, Poland.
She is a First Prize winner of the 4th National Music Competition of Georgia in 2007 and Lado Ataneli Competition in 2011.
