Mezzo soprano Dr. Leah Giselle Field is a past winner of the Western Canada District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, a finalist for the Jeunesse Musicales Maureen Forrester Award Tour, and a semifinalist in the Marcello Giordani Foundation International Vocal Competition. She is a recent graduate of the DMA program in Voice and Opera from the University of British Columbia, and holds a MMus in Literature and Performance- Voice from the University of Western Ontario and a BMus in Opera from UBC. Leah is looking forward to singing with Vancouver Opera as a 2016/17 member of the the Yulanda M. Faris Young Artists Program.
An active performer, Leah has sung opera, art song, oratorio, and musical theatre in North America, Europe, and China. She has performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Toronto, the West Coast Symphony, and the UBC Symphony Orchestra, and as a recitalist throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario.
Leah has a background in the RCM curricula for voice, piano, speech arts and drama, speech theory, music history, counterpoint, and harmony. As a teacher she has guided students through RCM voice and music theory exams, post-secondary and professional auditions, adjudicated the Junior Voice Division of the Fraser Valley Kiwanis Festival, and won a university-wide award for teaching and curriculum design at the undergraduate level.
