Joshua Weilerstein : Joshua Weilerstein conducts Firebird Suite - Stravinsky
Conductor and violinist Joshua Weilerstein, born 1987, has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and conductor at concert halls around the world.
As a conductor, Joshua recently was the first prizewinner in the 2009 Malko International Competition for Young Conductors. As a result of winning Malko, Joshua will over a period of three years conduct 16 of the leading Scandinavian orchestras, including the Oslo Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, among others. In 2009 he will conduct Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Sweden, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra, Denmark.
Joshua has also conducted the American Philharmonic as well as the NEC Preparatory School String Chamber Orchestra. In the summer of 2009, Joshua will be attending the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival.
In addition to pursuing his conducting career, Joshua Weilerstein is a dedicated chamber musician. He has just completed his Bachelors degree at New England Conservatory, studying with Lucy Chapman and will be beginning a masters degree program as a double major in violin and conducting at NEC in the fall of 2009, studying with both Lucy Chapman and Hugh Wolff.
