Belgian soprano Hendrickje Van Kerckhove studied with Bernadette Degelin at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and fulfilled her vocal education with Susan Roper. She subsequently acquired a post-graduate at the Flanders Opera Studio and at the Queen Elisabeth Musical College (where she was coached by José van Dam and Susanna Eken). Her international career started at Royal Theater la Monnaie as Kristin in the world creation of Julie (Philippe Boesmans) with revivals at Wiener Festwochen and Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. Another important breakthrough came in 2005 with her debut at Bavarian State Opera in Arnaldo De Felice’s opera Medusa, followed by Oscar (Ballo in Maschera) and Voce dal Cielo (Don Carlo) led by Maestro Zubin Mehta, who invited her as well to sing Blonde (Entführung) in Tel-Aviv.
In September 2014 she created Claire in Quai Ouest (after Bernard-Marie Koltès) by French composer Régis Campo (world creation at Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg). Other highlights include appearances at Grand Teatro del Liceu and La Monnaie as Blonde ; at Theater an der Wien as Soeur Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites), Maja in the world premiere of Die Besessenen (Johannes Kalizke) and Najade (Ariadne) ; at ONR Strasbourg as Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Adèle (Fledermaus), Clorinda (La Cenerentola) ; at Staatsoper unter den Linden Berlin as Soprano 2 (Al gran sole carico d'amore/Luigi Nono) ; at the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam as Norma Jean (world première of Waiting for Ms Monroe by Robin de Raaff) and at Opéras de Nantes et Angers as Elena (Il Cappello di paglia) by Nino Rota. Furthermore she took part in Kain (Scarlatti) and Jephtha (Haendel) at Altstadtherbst Kulturfestival (Düsseldorf), in Jeanne d'Arc au bûcherr (Honegger) at Musikverein Wien and Brucknerhaus Linz and inEntführung with Das Neue Orchester at TCE, Paris.
During the current season (2015/2016) Hendrickje Van Kerckhove appear amonst other as Sand- und Taumännchen in the new production of Hänsel und Gretel at Nationale Opera Amsterdam and as Johanna Barker in Sweeney Todd (La Monnaie). In the long term she will sing Giannetta (L'Elisir d'Amore), Anna (Intermezzo, by R. Strauss), Soeur Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites) and the role of Au pair in the world première of Frankenstein (Mark Grey).
Amongst her other roles : Valencienne (Lustige Witwe), Woglinde (Rheingold), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Lisa (Sonnambula) performed at the Flanders Opera ; and Sophie (Werther), 1. Blumenmädchen (Parsifal) ; Ernestine (Monsieur Choufleuri/Offenbach), Dircé (Médée/Cherubini), Karolka (Jenufa) and Shéhérazade (Sindbad) at La Monnaie.
Meanwhile she sang under the baton of Enrique Mazzola, Kazushi Ono, Zubin Mehta, Ed Spanjaard, Paul Daniel, Andreas and Christoph Spering, Bertrand de Billy, Theodor Guschlbauer, Louis Langrée, J. Cl. Casadesus, Rani Calderon, Attilio Cremonesi, Philippe Herreweghe, Ottavio Dantone, Hartmut Haenchen, David Afkham, Christophe Rousset, Roland Böer, Ingo Metzmacher, Ludovic Morlot and Marcus Bosch. She was directed by G. Joosten, C. Loy, I. Van Hove, Fr. Dussenne, L. Bondy, R. Carsen, D. McVicar, A. Freyer, K. Holten, R. Castellucci, H. Kupfer, Kr. Warlikowski, W. Koeken, K. Mitchell, A. Hermanis and Kristian Frédric.
In concert she appeared with Brussels Philharmonic (Matthew Passion), Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège (Brahms, Ein deutsches Requiem), National Orchestra of Belgium (Mahler 4 and Mozart arias), Ensemble Orchestral de Paris (Hollinger, Morgenstern-Lieder) Camerata Academica Salzburg (Mahler 4), Residentie Orkest The Hague (Strauss-Lieder), Concert Spirituel led by Hervé Niquet, (Dixit Dominus, Haendel), Orchestre des Pays de la Loire, again under Hervé Nique's baton (in The Messiah). Summer 2015 she will perform the solo soprano in Brahms's "Ein deutsches Requiem" at the Festivals of Reims and Saint Riquier, with Brussels Philharmonic under Hervé Niquet.
Called “RISING STAR” by ECHO she was offered a recital tour to Europe’s most prestigious concert halls as Bozar Brussels, Musikverein Vienna, Philharmonie de Luxembourg, Megaron Athens ... Meanwhile she has made herself a name as a refined recitalist.
