In 2016, Eva Kong will sing Liù in Turandot for Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour. For Opera Australia, she also appears as Laura in Luisa Miller and Princess Linetta in The Love for Three Oranges.
Born in Korea and now based in Sydney, Eva attained her Bachelor of Music at Hanyang University, South Korea - continuing her studies at Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Graduate Diploma in Music in 2010.
Eva has been the recipient of many awards including 1st prize in the Giacomo Lauri-Volpi International Competition (2002); Scholarship from the Vinas International Competition (2005); a semi-finalist in the Belvedere International Competition (2004) and Bilbao International Competition (2005), a finalist in the McDonald’s Operatic Aria and winner of the Special Prize at the Bel Canto Award (2011).
Most recently Eva received a Helpmann Award Nomination for Best Female in a Supporting Role and was a Green Room Award Winner for Best Female in a Supporting Role, - both in 2014 for her commanding appearance as Madame Mao in Nixon in China for Victorian Opera.
Eva has performed the roles of Gilda (Rigoletto) for Opera Australia; Madame Mao (Nixon in China) for Victorian Opera; Pamina (The Magic Flute), Gretel (Hansel & Gretel) and Amina (La sonnambula) for Pacific Opera.
On the concert platform, Eva has sung the soprano solos in Verdi’s Requiem with both Willoughby Symphony and Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor with Sydney University Musical Society and Saint Saens’ Requiem with Sydney University Graduate Choir.
Eva’s engagements for 2015 included Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro and Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore for Opera Australia. She also appeared as the High Priestess in Aida for Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour.
