Clare Ghigo is a mezzo soprano with a Masters Degree in Opera Performance at RWCMD(Cardiff) under the tutelage of Leah Marian Jones and Laura Sarti. She holds a BMUS (Hons) from GSMD ( London).
Clare's operatic roles include Annio in Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, Hansel in Humperdinck‘s Hansel and Gretel, the Third/ Second Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute and the old Gypsy Woman in Rachmaninov’s Aleko and Hampstead Garden Opera's Monteverdi’s Orfeo as (Hope and Proserpina). Whilst studying at Guildhall, Clare understudied the role of Mustardseed in a GSMD production of Britten’s Midsummers Nights Dream, and debuted at Wigmore Hall.
Clare’s recent engagements and achievements include singing in Welsh National Opera 's Magic Flute as a third boy, and at the Joseph Calleja Summer Concert. Clare has performed the title role of Bizet's Carmen with Opera r’ Ddraig (Cardiff),Madame La Hartier and Dorothee in Massenet's Cendrillion with BPO (Cardiff) and the title role of Rossini's La Cenerentola as part of Clapham Music Festival in London.
Clare is a versatile soloist and have performed with various ensembles, some of which the Jeune Orchestre Atlantique, Guildhall Consort, VIBE, and Ensemble Telemaque and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra with whom she toured China. Clare will be furthering her studies at Dennis Oneill's Wales international Academy of Voice.
Clare is a Solti Accademia Del Bel Canto scholar and is gratefully supported by The Malta Arts Scholarships and The Joseph Calleja Foundation.
