The young British bass-baritone Bradley Travis was born in Cheshire and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) where he was the Drapers’ de Turckheim Scholar, winner of the Alexander Young Award and a finalist in the Frederic Cox Award. He graduated from the Royal College of Music International Opera School (RCMIOS) winning the Eric Joseph Shilling Award for Opera. He also received a Sir Gordon Palmer Scholarship supported by the South Square Trust Award. He is a Samling Artist and studies with Russell Smythe.
Bradley Travis has appeared in Masterclasses with, among others, Helmut Deutsch, Gerald Finley, Angelika Kirchschlager, Sir John Tomlinson, Roger Vignoles and Roderick Williams.
Operatic roles performed include Figaro The Marriage of Figaro (Opera North), Bunthorne Patience, Masetto Don Giovanni (English Touring Opera, Classical Opera, Opera Project), Fireman Biedermann and the Arsonists (Independent Opera), Lesbus Agrippina (Iford Opera), Don Iñigo Gomez L’heure espagnole, Lord Ellington La Vie Parisienne, Ottone L’incoronazione di Poppea all for the (RCMIOS). He has also appeared as Nanni L’infedelta delusa (Haydn), Escamillo Carmen, Agamemnon La Belle Helene, Kuligan Katya Kabanova, Antonio Le nozze di Figaro, Baron Zeta The Merry Widow, Count Robinson The Secret Marriage for British Youth Opera who presented him with the Basil A Turner Award, Minos Arianna in Creta, Argenio Imeneo (Handel) under Laurence Cummings for the London Handel Festival and Alidoro La Cenerentola for Mananan Festival Opera.
Bradley Travis has a busy concert diary and amongst his repertoire are Elijah, The Creation, Messiah, Alexander's Feast, Requiem Duruflé, Fauré, Goodall and Mozart; St John Passion (Christus & Arias), St Matthew Passion (Christus & Arias), B Minor Mass and Christmas Oratorio. He has appeared on the concert and recital platform at venues including The Sage, Gateshead, St James’ Piccadilly, Alfredo Kraus Auditorio, Las Palmas and Cadogan Hall. In 2016 he performed Serenade to Music at the Royal Albert Hall as part of The Last Night of the Proms.
He received the prestigious Garsington Opera Leonard Ingrams Award in 2015, and the Helen Clarke Award in recognition of his contribution and musical skill during their 2014 season. For Garsington Opera he has performed Don Fernando Fidelio in Paris and Siegfried Sassoon in Roxanna Panufnik's new comission Silver Birch, a 'People's Opera'.
Bradley is also heavily involved in introducing opera to children, working with amongst others, English Touring Opera to devise and perform operas in schools including Sem'ye in Winter 2017 and in 2018 a new opera for SEND young people called This is My Bed.
Engagements in 2018 include Betto Gianni Schicchi, cover Figaro The Marriage of Figaro for ETO followed by Robin Ruddigore and Strephon Iolanthe for the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company.
