Bastien Stil has been invited to conduct the Polish National Radio Orchestra, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra in recordings of Russian trumpet concertos of the modern period,(Vassilienko, Nesterov, Pakhmutova….), a project that started in 2010. Following this, he has been invited to conduct musicians of the Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France at the Maison de la radio for a concert in aid of UNICEF, l'Orchestre National Bordeaux-Aquitaine, l’Orchestre National d’Ile de France, l'Orchestre d’Auvergne, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brno Philharmonic, in such prestigious places as Wiener’s Konzerthaus, Paris Philharmonie, Monte Carlo’s Palais Garnier, Barbican Center (…), and broadcasted on french and international medias (arte, mezzo, bbc, cz tv, etc...)
Future engagements include a recording of Shostakovitch’s first Symphony and the world premiere of Dimitri Tchesnokov’s violin concerto (soloist: Sarah Nemtanu) with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, debut with the Ensemble InterContemporain (recording of David Hudry’s “The Forgotten City”), BBC Concert Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lille, l’Orchestre Lamoureux, Victor Hugo/Franche-Comté Symphonic Orchestra (…) He’ll conduct again on several occasions l’Orchestre National Bordeaux-Aquitaine, l’Orchestre National d’Ile de France, the Brno Philharmonic.
Bastien Stil’s dense and multidisciplinary musical career started by learning piano in Rouen with Pierre Duvauchelle (a student of Marguerite Long and Marcel Dupré, also founder of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris). He also studied brass instruments , composition, analysis, music history and conducting (S.Billard, C.Levacher). He then got a place at the Conservatoire (CNSM) in Paris where he graduated with distinction in all of these disciplines and worked conducting regularly with Neil Thomson (Royal College of Music).
As a soloist, he has been invited to play and give Master Classes in France and abroad (Belgium, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam...) and has performed as an orchestral musician in the most prestigious French orchestras (Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Opéra de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Ensemble Intercontemporain) which has enabled him to work under some of the greatest maestri: E.Svetlanov, V.Gergiev, M.W.Chung, P.Boulez, R.Mutti, C.Eischenbach, P.Jaarvi…
Eclectic, versatile and always in search of different challenges, Bastien Stil has also collaborated with some of the greatest jazz musicians of our time (Wayne Shorter, Avishai Cohen, Milton Nascimento, Marcus Roberts, Richard Galliano, Lee Konitz, Yusef Lateef, Dave Liebman ,etc...)
