Anna Cley is a French mezzo-soprano. She sang and performed already as a young child, studying the trombone, flute, organ and piano. As a teenager she won first prize in numerous international classical singing competitions. Later on, she was a finalist at the New York Lyric Opera Theatre competition, the international Arioso competition, and the international Bel Canto Vincenzo Bellini competition. For a part of her life Ms. Cley had to follow a “practical” course, and therefore earned a degree in aerospace engineering, a profession she practiced successfully for several years. But she was eventually able to devote herself entirely to her true calling. Ms. Cley has given many solo recitals in France and in the USA and has performed in recent years in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Il Tabarro, Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, Ravel’s L’enfant et les Sortilèges, Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri, Wagner’s Die Walküre, and Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov. In France she has performed with the ensemble Opalescences, at the Cortot concert hall in Paris, for the Mairie de Paris, and for the Artenetra festival, and she has participated in a program sponsored by the European commission with bass-baritone Ruggero Raimondi at the Musicatreize concert hall in Marseille. In the U.S., she has performed with the Commonwealth Lyric Theater in Boston, with the Mendelssohn Glee Club, at Carnegie Hall, and at the Symphony Space in New York. She recorded a CD of operatic arias for the book-cd “Art & Aesthetics” written by Dr. Benedict Beckeld and published by French label Lux Classic in January 2016. She enjoys contemporary music and collaborates with the composers Epaminondas Chiriacopol, Napua Davoy, Hung Ping Chang, and WIlliam Maselli. In May 2016, she was interviewed by American radio Biz Talk Radio for Conscious Lifestyles about her career change and her artistic perspectives. In September 2016, she performed for Minika Ko’s fashion show in New York, and she will perform in October 2016 in a concert called “Visions of the Modern Muse” at Carnegie Hall.
