The young Berliner, Alexandra Ionis, currently lives in her home city and receives training and artistic influence from baritone Aris Argiris (until recently from Kammersängerin Deborah Polaski). Her singing studies also led her to the Conservatorio di musica Giuseppe Verdi in Milan where she was trained by Daniela Uccello. In Rome, where Alexandra Ionis became a member of the International Opera Studio at the Accademia nazionale di Santa Cecilia, she received further important influence from Renata Scotto and worked with the pianist Fabio Centanni, among others.
In 2014, her collaboration with renowned Italian pianist Sergio Lattes begun; a collaboration dedicated primarily to the interpretation of the Kunstlied. The first Liederabend, containing works by Shostakovich and Ravel, brought her to the philharmonic hall of Messina and was followed by a Lied-cycle with works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff in Milan.
In March of 2016, Alexandra Ionis debuted next to Ricarda Merbeth and Laura Aikin in R. Strauss‘ Die ägyptische Helena at the Deutsche Oper Berlin under the baton of Andrew Litton (Stage Direction: Marco Arturo Marelli). The performance was followed by another important opera project in the form of Aribert Reimann’s Melusine/Pythia under Errico Fresis and Frank Hilbrich at the Universität der Künste Berlin.
Alexandra Ionis’ extensive opera repertoire also includes roles such as Olga/Eugen Onegin, 2nd Lady and 3rd Lady/Die Zauberflöte, Sesto/La Clemenza di Tito, Fenena/Nabucco, Maddalena/Rigoletto, and Flora/La Traviata. In addition, she is momentarily working on such roles as Isabella/L’italiana in Algeri, Léonore/La Favorite, Prinz Orlofsky/Die Fledermaus, and Charlotte/Werther.
Her concert repertoire includes works such as Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium, Rossini’s Petite messe solanelle, Verdi’s Requiem, and Mahler’s Symphony no. 3, which she recently performed in Hannover.
During the current season, Alexandra Ionis will, among other things, be performing in the new production of Death in Venice (Benjamin Britten) under Donald Runnicles and Graham Vick at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Subsequently, she will be on stage at Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Aribert Reimann’s Gespenstersonate.
For the coming season, Alexandra Ionis can already look forward to three different exciting projects. In Chemnitz she will take on the roles of Annina (Der Rosenkavalier), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), and Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro).
