Passion and growth are two things that define Adriana Gonzalez in all her projects. Born in Guatemala in 1991, Adriana Gonzalez is a lyric soprano that made her operatic debut with the roles of Susanna in Marriage of Figaro, Fiordiligi in Cosí Fan Tutte, Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, and Amour in Orpheus and Eurydice in her home town Guatemala City. Under the tutelage of Mrs. Barbara Bickford, she is awarded the New Upcoming Artist Award 2009 by the Hemeroteca Nacional in Guatemala. A year before, she enrolled at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, where she majored in Music and graduated as a Bachelor of Arts in 2012. In 2013, Adriana has her first engagement outside Guatemala at the Roger Barat Theatre in Herblay engaged her for their productions of Weber’s Abu Hassan and Zanetto by Mascagni.
In March 2014, she was invited by the Atelier Lyrique of the Opéra National de Paris to sing the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the MC93 in Bobigny.
After which she joined the Atelier Lyrique/Académie de l’Opéra National de Paris from 2014 until 2017, where she interpreted the roles of Diane and Première Pretrêsse in Gluck’s Iphigenie en Tauride at the Theatre in Saint-Quentin-en- Yvelines and at the Palais Garnier under the baton of Geoffroy Jourdain and subsequently Bertrand de Billy, Despina in the Atelier Lyrique’s production of Cosí Fan Tutte which toured in Paris, Besançon, Antibes and Lebanon, Bidule 1 in Joanna Lee’s Vol Retour, Paggio in Verdi’s Rigoletto, and Sapho and Iphise in Les Fêtes d’Hébé at Opéra Bastille.
Adriana also performed in concerts at the Palais Garnier, conducted by Jérémie Rhorer and Patrick Lange, as well as giving a recital in the Auditorium of the Louvre. She is also very much into chamber music, having performed pieces by Schubert, Schumann, Dvorak, Brahms, Saint-Saëns, and Beethoven at the Amphithéâtre de l’Opéra Bastille. Before finishing the Atelier Lyrique program in Paris, Adriana was awarded the 2017 Prix Lyrique du Cercle Carpeaux for her outstanding development.
Before joining the IOS at the Opernhaus Zürich in September 2017, Adriana made her debut in the rol of Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Oper Burg Gars Summer Festival in Austria, and her debut the Gran Teatro Liceu in Barcelona as Corinna Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims.
Adriana has been very successful in several international singing competitions as well. In 2012, she was awarded 1st prize at the Festival della Canzone Italiana del Isituto Italiano di Cultura in the Bel Canto Category. In 2016 was awarded 3rd prize at the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition and later that year she is awarded first prize at the Otto Edelmann Competition in Vienna, as well as the Oper Burg Gars prize. Afterwards in 2017, she was the 2nd prize winner at the Francisco Viñas Singing Competition in Barcelona, where she was also the Public’s Prize Winner, the Teatro Real de Madrid Extraordinary Prize, the Associació d’Amics de l’Òpera de Sabadell Extraordinary Prize and the Internationale OpernWerkstatt Extraordinary Prize.
Upcoming projects include recitals at the Opéra Bastille and at the Théâtre Roger Barat in Paris, and at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid. She will also make her debut at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy as Lia in L’Enfant Prodigue by Debussy. Adriana will also be singing Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Rumpelwichtin in Ronja Räubertochter, Alice in Le Comte d’Ory, Blumenmädchen in Parsifal, Serpetta in La Finta Giardiniera and Annina in La Traviata as part of the IOS of the Opernhaus Zürich in the 2017-2018 season.
